Physical Education (PE)

physical education

At St Vincent’s we feel that it is essential to promote both a healthy and active lifestyle for all children. The children have access to a sports coach who comes into schools on a Monday and Thursday to deliver high quality physical lessons to our children. Teachers also deliver high quality physical education lessons, focusing on developing children’s knowledge and skills in PE. We follow the PE Hub scheme of work, which provides engaging lessons for all year groups. During these lessons we focus on developing children’s team working skills, communication and fairness to others. All children have the opportunity to complete a broad range of activities individually, in partners, groups and in teams. During KS2 two classes attend swimming lessons at Eric Liddell Sports Centre.

By the time children leave St Vincent’s it is our intention that all children leave with the fundamental movement skills, the ability to develop competence in a wide range of physical activities as well as understanding how to keep up a healthy and balanced lifestyle through diet and fitness. We also intend children to have access to a wide range of sports and activities. We intend this to set children up to confidently pursue different sports in the future.
