We would like to warmly welcome your child into Year 5 and we are very excited to support them as they begin their journey in Upper KS2.

The class teachers for Year 5 are Mrs Hall (Monday-Wednesday) and Miss Sidhu (Thursday and Friday.)

The class teaching assistants are Mrs Smith (Monday and Tuesday), Mrs Bennett (every day) and Mrs Courtney (Thursday and Friday)

In Year 5 we provide an exciting and engaging curriculum that prepares children to become active members of society. We aim to inspire all of our pupils, to rise to the challenges that will enable them to develop the skills and personal qualities they need, in order to embrace the future with confidence. St Vincent’s has consistently high standards of achievement. This high achievement is a result of outstanding teaching and learning, hard work from the pupils and support from parents.

PE days are a Wednesday and a Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school each day, in line with the school policy.

We use Ten Ten to teach Relationship and Health Education, a Catholic scheme approved by the diocese.

Children attend three school trips a year. In the Autumn term the children visited the Horniman Museum as part of their History topic of Ancient Egypt.

Supporting your child with their learning at home

Children are encouraged to read daily. This can be completed with an adult, or children can choose to read independently. Reading records should be handed in on a Monday.

Homework

They will be set spelling and numeracy homework on a Friday which is to be handed in on a Wednesday. Children have a spelling and number fact test each Wednesday. We would appreciate you supporting your child with their homework.

If you have any questions or queries, please either see us at the end of the school day on the playground, or send an email to general.post@st-vincents.bromley.sch.uk and we will get back to you promptly.

In Year 5 our Catholic key figure is Edith Stein

Edith Stein was a German Jewish Philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Discalced Carmelite nun. She has been recognised as a martyr and saint of the Roman Catholic Church. In Year 5 we looked at the wonderful work that she did, and the interest that she took in the Catholic faith.

This is an image of Edith Stein and our class display showing what we have learnt about her:
