IMPACT
Our phonics provision aims to ensure that all children make strong and sustained progress from their individual starting points. Through systematic teaching, regular assessment and timely support, we enable children to develop the knowledge and confidence they need to become successful readers.
We monitor children's progress throughout Reception and Key Stage 1, using assessment to identify strengths, address gaps and ensure that teaching is responsive to individual needs.
The impact of our phonics teaching can be seen when children are able to:

Recognise and recall the graphemes and phonemes they have been taught

Blend sounds confidently to decode unfamiliar words

We are proud of the progress our children make and celebrate their achievements as they develop into increasingly fluent and enthusiastic readers. The Year 1 Phonics Screening Check provides one measure of children's phonics knowledge, but we recognise that the greatest measure of success is seeing children choosing to read, enjoying books and developing the confidence to read independently.
Our ultimate goal is that every child leaves Key Stage 1 with secure foundations in phonics, a growing love of reading and the confidence to continue their reading journey successfully throughout their school life and beyond.
